In previous seasons (1-4), the voice of Aku was provided by Mako Iwamatsu. He is also one of the most recognisable voices for ardent gamers due to his involvement in video games like ‘The Legend of Kora’, ‘Rango’, ‘Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood’, ‘Spider-Man: Web of Shadows’ and ‘Kung Fu Panda’. He also made an appearance in ‘Hail, Caesar!’ and ‘Adam Ruins Everything’. Baldwin’s voice credits include names like ‘Star Wars: Clone Wars’. The voice of Jack’s nemesis, Aku, is provided by Greg Baldwin. Some of his credits include names like ‘Justice League Unlimited’, ‘Futurama’, ‘Static Shock’, ‘Dead Island’, ‘Docksiders’, ‘Final Fantasy XII’, and ‘Kingdom of Hearts’ franchise. He has amassed experience from his extensive work in animated movies and series and video games. Phil LaMarr voices the titular character, Jack. ‘Samurai Jack’ has the advantage of having some of the best voice actors in its cast. Unlike live-action movies, where actors can say a thousand things with their expressions, the animated characters can’t rely on their restricted facial expressions to communicate their emotions. I didn't really catch it.) I feel she might go to Jack's side at some point in the story, being the only one we have been shown to fail in some aspect or another. When it comes to animated stories, a perfect voice casting becomes one of the most important factors. I have a feeling the 7 girls might be broken up into 6 girls and 1 outcast, they spent too much time on the one who seems to be the leader (her name starts with an A. Jack lost his way and has to fight his inner demons and get his sword back at the same time. I'll be honest, I LOVED this episode and it truly did show the basic frame of the start of this season. They get sent out at the end to complete their only mission in life, to kill Samurai Jack. Hash training included them getting the snot beat out of them for failure, constant fighting and training, and a final test where they must fight their own to climb a large stone pillar/rock killing their own along the way. Possible best quote from the episode: "I wasn't crazy about the front scrub, but I'm groovin' on the mane in the back" -Jazzy Flute/Sword RobotĬult of women who speak of Aku as their master have 7 children born to be trained to specifically kill Jack. It seems to him that he's going nowhere fast (possible because of the mounted enemy) claiming that Aku is the reason for his failure. Jack is MUCH more ruthless and seems fairly apathetic to even saving people due to his inner turmoil (not checking on the 3 emoji girls and just leaving). machine gun, rocket launcher, decked out motorcycle, pistol, staff, and now Tuning Fork Dagger) to fight off the first new assassin, the Jazzy Flute/Sword Robot. Now Jack must use an asortment of other weapons (ie. Jack also has lost his sword due to a battle with an enemy mounted on a horse constantly laughing at him just fueling the fires of his demons. He is definitely fighting inner demons he has created for himself, that was confirmed after he started seeing his parents as leaves floating down a small stream that turned in to a literal River Styx with many, many souls screaming for Jack to help and not forget them. So we already know that Jack had lost his way at the moment with 50 years passing and him not aging. He even helped with the transition of Jacks appearance by commenting on the armor and the beard / hair (which was "groovy" as hell) He had personality, a cool stylistic outfit, and a unique fighting style. Last thing i'll say is that the assassin was an amazing character. I can't think of a time there has been any english text in an episode before (I might be wrong) The whole fight in the beginning was great but something about seeing english text and emoji's in this series freaks me out. This has already started with him losing his helmet and trading out a gun for the tuning sword (Which I really want to see him fight with). I'm not a big fan of the armor but i'm guessing he will slowly start to lose it throughout the episodes until he finds himself ending with his sword being returned to him. It's not necessarily a bad thing and I can totally get behind it but it's just noticeable. That being said a few things felt strange, the art style is similar enough that you can tell its still Samurai Jack but its much more detailed and seems like it has more of a flow to it. If this episode is representative of what enemies we can expect to see then I can't wait for every episode of this!
